After a promising start this year, Art Fair Philippines will be returning in an extended format in February. For its sophomore year, the small Manila fair will be expanding onto a second floor of the same car park building it was held in 2013.
A total of 28 galleries will be participating, including 3 non-Filipino galleries (Taksu, Equator Art Projects, and Richard Koh Fine Art). The latter will be showing mostly works by Filipino artists they represent, says fair organizer Trickie Lopa.
Primarily focusing on galleries from the Philippines, the fair aims to present Filipino talent, and several site-specific installations have been commissioned including works by Rodel Tapaya, a reception area piece by Jose John Santos III, an interactive sports-inspired work by Louie Cordero, and silk-screened scarves and graphic wallpaper from UK-trained artist Pio Abad. The second floor area will feature new sculptural works by established artist Benedicto Cabrera, also known as BenCab, alongside solo exhibitions by hot Filipino artists Marina Cruz, Geraldine Javier, and Ronald Ventura.
The fair will have a room dedicated to video art, and Christie’s will run a lecture series focusing on broadening knowledge of Southeast Asian contemporary art and historical art movements.
The Link car park building between the Makati Shangri-La hotel and the Landmark department store will be transformed once again into an alternative art space thanks to a collaboration with architects Leandro V. Locsin Partners and designer Kenneth Cobonpue.
Participating galleries include: Altro Mondo, Archivo, Art Cube, Art Informal, Avellana Art Gallery, Blanc, Boston Gallery, CANVAS, Crucible, Equator Art Projects, Finale, Galleria Duemila, Light and Space Contemporary, Liongoren Gallery, Manila Contemporary, MO Space, NOVA, Now Gallery, Pablo, Paseo Art Gallery, Secret Fresh, Richard Koh Fine Art, Silverlens, TAKSU, The Drawing Room, Tin-Aw, West Gallery, and 1335 Mabini.
Art Fair Philippines 2014 will take place February 20 to 23, 2014.
