I've always liked Sandra Lee's detailed, whimsical graphic world and it's nice to see thatwith her new exhibition, the Malaysian artist is exploring new imageries while remaining faithfull to her distinctive style. Her just-opened solo exhibition at Art Seasons gallery in Singapore presents a naïve perspective of child-like wondering and wandering.
The Malaysian artist has always found inspiration in fables and nursey rhymes, and tries to interpret those in different cultural context, putting an Asian twist on western fairtales. Her works are full of interesting details and it's easy to get lost inside the paintings, always discovering something new.
There are often recurring character, like the little blond girl that maybe a representation of Lee herself as an Alice in Wonderland kind of character.
