Delhi-based Shambhavi Singh, more used to working on large installation and sculptural projects, explores paper's possibilities for her new exhibition 'Lonely Furrow' at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute.
Inspired by the frugal lives of farmers from her native Bihar, she's created minimalist works, mainly in earthy tones that recall the tools the farmers use to plant seeds.
A small cluster of "paper" sickles on the floor symbolises the communal act of farming though the rusted colored sickles look abandonned as if the farmers have left the land. The theme of the sickle is used again in many prints. In my views, her more interesting works are colorful abstractions of the farmer's humble bowl, where the artist has managed to achieve luminous effect
