The Pace Gallery, Beijing will open this week a solo exhibition of Yue Minjun's recent works.
More than two decades into his artistic career, Yue is still smiling at the world as he sees it (especially at all those collectors queuing up to buy his works, even though he's not as popular nowadays as he used to be at auction).
In his newest exhibition, Yue's work takes on Christianinity using the visual language of his smiling self-portraits which mask underlying emotions, as well continuing his Landscape with No One series in which he removes figures from historical Chinese socialist paintings and well-known western paintings.
