Get ready to be wow. Set in futuristic cityscape with a West Side story theme, Cirque Éloize’s ID features a series of short acts showcasing different circus disciplines that are meshed with street dancing, like breakdance and hip hop. The décor is simple but mesmerizing thanks to the clever use of image projections (wait for the final trampoline scene with performers looking like they’re walking up a wall) and clever door and window openings. Many of the acts have unusual combinations such as an aerialist with a roller-bladder, a contortionist with a b-boy, a pole acrobat breakdancing.
Amongst the (many) highlights of the show are a BMX pro biking jumping over people and climbing up a wall on one wheel and a freakishly good contortionist that seems to be made out of rubber. It’s a fresh take on acrobatics that will delight adults and kids (my 8 year old said it was “the best!”). The show is on at Marina Bay Sands until the end of June, and is in my view the best in town since the start of The Lion King.
While there are only 16 performers their street-savvy acts hold their own rather well against Cirque du Soleil.
