‘Contemporary Japanese Crafts’ at NAFA campus is a major travelling exhibition of 64 works that represent the epitome of contemporary Japanese design. Curated by Shiraishi Masami, Director of Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art, the exquisite range of ceramics, porcelain, stoneware and lacquerware offers an overview of the quintessential characteristics of Japanese crafts. The show includes work by three master craftsmen – Eri Sayoko (1945 – 2007), Tokuda Yasokichi (1933 – 2009) and Yoshida Minori (1932 - ), who have been designated ‘Living National Treasure’, a title conferred by the Japanese government to living individuals recognised for their cultural achievements and intangible cultural value in Japan. The touring exhibition was last shown in Bangkok and it will be moving to Guam after its stop in Singapore.
