Larasati will be holding a sale of Asian Modern and Contemporary Art on August 14 in Singapore. The catalogue is heavy on Indonesian paintings, from traditional Balinese paintings to Indonesian modern masters and a few new kids on the blocks. But overall the paintings on offer are fairly traditional and figurative. Many of the younger Asian artists seem to still be inspired by Mickey, Marilyn, Andy Warhold.. why must they always explore American icons instead of those from their own culture is beyond me? The only work that really took my fancy was Christine Ay Tjoe's mixed media on canvas (photo).
