Sotheby’s Hong Kong will kick off its Autumn 2010 Sale Series by offering two private wine collections - The Magnificent Cellar of Marcus D. Hiles and The Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector (Part VI) on October 2-3. The two sales are expected to fetch HK$50.4 - 75.7 million (US$6.5-9.7 million). Marcus Hiles is a Texas real-estate investor and noted philanthropist as well as a wine collector and the highlight of his sale is a superb collection of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti with 1,030 bottles in various formats valued at HK$ 8.9 – 13.8 million (US$ 1.1 – 1.8 million). The second day sale has a particular strength in Château Pétrus, one of the world’s most sought after wines. Over 400 bottles across many different formats will be offered, making this the most important Pétrus collection offered at auction.
