EMERGENT, a solo exhibition by San Francisco and Shanghai based Chinese American artist Zheng Chongbin has just opened at Valentine Willie Fine Arts in Singapore. In this show, Zheng presents both his signature large-scale ink paintings as well as new large-scale installation works. For the past twenty-five years, Zheng has been exploring how to expand the potential of ink as a creative medium and how to incorporate new expressions of depth and structure into ink painting? He's mastered the use of ink wash with acrylic and fixer and the relationship between the various media has led to the emergence of a new visual language and an internationalism of ink painting. There is real poetry in his monochromatic abstract compositions that used familiar and unfamiliar shapes.
Zheng was commissioned to make an installation of 86 monumental site specific sculptures, titled Rising Forest, for the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort in Singapore and his work will be unveiled at the end of the month.
