I’ve recently discovered Ye Hong Xing’s works and I really love her self-portraits with bright Chinese florals and other Chinese decorative patterns, super-imposed over her face painted in shades of grey. The artist is very concerned with the juxtaposition of “peace and luxury” and she contrasts her serene expression painted in sombre tones with rich and vibrant composition of flowers and wines. The artist has been quoted saying her works is the reaction to the “swift change of China’s social system”. Her latest exhibition, Diffusion, is opening today at Art Scene Warehouse in Beijing.
