The Shanghai Art Museum has just opened a large retrospective of the late artist Ren Weiyin’s works. A legendary figure in Chinese painting, Ren was among the first painters to mix western painting influences with traditional Chinese methods and perspectives. He also developed a special painting technique using a lot of megilp (a varnish-oil mixture) mixed with oil paint, making his medium very flexible.
His work has a beautiful impressionistic quality. These painting really remind me of Monet. The show is only on until the end of the month.
