Ip Man 2 with Donnie Yen is scheduled to premiere in China on Thursday. Directed by Yip Wai Shun, the film continues to portray the life of kung fu master Ip Man (who taught Bruce Lee) who has flee China after killing a Japanese army official to defend his honor and is now settling with his family in Hong Kong. Trying to set up his own Wing Chun school is proving hard, as he has first to convince students and then other Wushu masters of his skills.
The film is grand fest of Wushu fights (most notable, the fight between grand masters involving a precariously balanced round dinner table – vintage). Unfortunately, the atrocious acting of a handful of Western actors completely marred the experience for me…Next to them, Yen seems to put on an Oscar-winning performance! Such a shame, otherwise would have been very good. Still I enjoyed the various fight scenes and Wushu fans won't be disappointed. At 46, Yen is still in amazing form.
