Sotheby’s Hong Kong Contemporary Asian Art Spring Sale 2010 achieved a total of $18.5 million, exceeding the $16.3 million upper pre-sale estimate, but did so only selling 76 percent of the lots, which is disappointing. Liu Ye’s highly sought-after early work Bright Road fetched $2.45 million after a round of intense bidding, setting a new record for the artist at auction. There was heated competition for top tier talents such as Cai Guo-Qiang, Yue Minjun, Zeng Fanzhi, Wang Guangyi and Fang Lijun. Full details of the results are not yet out, but I'm quite interested in finding out those that didn't sell!
